  • you should have made the actual classic paper airplane if you look up classic dart paper airplane you would see what i mean, i would think that would have less of a tendency to dive (since it has less nose weight and the weight upfront is more distributed and the wings start right away and not further back), also since metal is heavier and it is diving if you cut out the piece of steel so that you make the paper air plane with less bends then that should cause it to have a better weight distribution which would make it have a better chance of flight.... you would most likely end up with a isosceles with a wider top tip to allow for the middle bend as the starting sheet, after the middle bend which bends the entire thing in half you would only make two bends for each wing... comment is here incase you make a part two

  • Problem is I'm not sure you understand how planes work. Folding neatly counts a lot. It needs some dihedral (Wings angled up a bit )So it looks like a vertically flattened "Y" from the front. It needs Elevators to control pitch some. If you don't mind violating the spirit of the challenge a bit remove some metal from the first folded triangles as they are hidden anyway.

  • I never thought that i would see the day when Giant Paper airplanes would have to be banned in warfare (For anybody who doesn't understand, press read more) For anybody who doesn't understand, there is a knife that you can put on a gun(most rifles back then during WW1 had them and were used for cooking actually) called a bayonet. The most common bayonet is the double sided bayonet. But the reason why I said that "I never thought that i would see the day when Giant Paper airplanes would have to be banned in warfare" is because the giant airplane acts like a 3 pronged bayonet which is banned in warfare. The reason being is because the wound of a 3 pronged bayonet charge is very hard to stitch and heal and is thus considered to harsh for warfare(yes sometimes things in warfare can be too harsh, but back then, Atomic bombs were not harsh(they were still harsh but the reason is just). If you know anything about WW2, You would have heard of the bombing of Pearl Harbor. This attack was illegal in warfare because the White House didn't receive any letter letting them know that Japan was about to attack Pearl Harbor(Japan did send a letter, but they attacked earlier than the time the letter actually arrived to the White House), and so it was considered to be an illegal attack. Because of this, America got into WW2 and at the end of the War, we nuked Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and even as a Christian, I still consider that to be moral. Anybody who doesn't know a lot about WW2 will say that I am retarded, I will let them say that because they don't know better. The thing is, Japan has never in Human History been successfully attacked in mainland Japan before WW2(the US was the first nation to successfully attack Japan via mainland with the Doolittle Raid(yes it was considered a defeat for the US, but the point of the Raid was to demoralize the citizens of Japan which the Doolittle Raid did tremendously), yes there are accounts of nations/tribes/empires who have tried to attack mainland Japan (I believe the Mongolian Empire tried to attack mainland Japan). The US was actually considering to attack Japan via mainland if the Manhattan Project wasn't a success. And if the US decided to attack mainland Japan, at least 500 thousand soldiers would die *at least*, some sources say that there would have been a few million casualties if the US decided to attack mainland Japan. And so I(and a lot of other people), would justify the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

  • It lease make an aluminium one, also if you make some folds at the wing tips up or down 90 degrees while it decreases the wingspan it will increase the stability I'm flight provided the aluminium one turns out light enough to fly, alternatively may want to forego the first 2 triangle folds and just cut them off since the design in steel was noticeably nose heavy to it's detriment.

    Anthony WilliamsAnthony Williams9 dager siden
  • For its density, a better design could be a wider design. Image taking your paper and turning it sideways to make the plane. Another idea is to make all of the folds more obtuse. Paper needs a tight folded design to stay strong, I have a feeling steel doesnt have that property.

  • So, when folding paper to make something that will glide, you are adding weight and rigidity in specific areas. Steel does not need this. Folding it is counter intuitive. Just decide on a shape and use single layers to form it. I am curious to see how that would turn out.

  • As a paper plane lover since my childhood I'd do 3 things to this final plane: 1. fold some Winglets: About 1,5 - 2 inch wide stripe of the whole outer wing edge 90° upwards. (That stabilizes the flight and also the wings) 2. weld some of the folds, especially on the tip (for even more stability) 3. build a huge catapult ;)

    SH1974SH197411 dager siden
  • I love this build. You can try to reduce the weight of the nose end of the plane (preferable method), or add a little weight to the tail end of the plane. It seems a little nose-heavy, hence its tenancy to constantly nose-dive. If you fix the balance you might get much more flight distance.
