The Ioniq 5 might look like a 1980s hot hatch mixed with a dash of concept car and a splash of DeLorean, but what we have here is Hyundai’s first completely bespoke EV. Target? Sideswipe Tesla, mug the VW ID family, and start the Ioniq EV family on the path to world domination. Muahaha. How? Well, let’s Ollie Kew explain…

May not be useful right now, given that we don't have smart grids implemented yet in most countries, but kudos to Hyundai for thinking long-term.

  • This prototype is getting a lot of internet exposure. Good thing is that if you're seen one review, you've seen them all, since it's all the same (individual) car. Everyone is getting their 2 hours driving/filming time.... Wheelbase (3 METERS!) is 15cm (6") shorter than an Honda Civic. Still not sure how big this car is though. Looks like an overgrow(?) VW Golf.

  • "Looks like a hot hatch from the 80's" And that is a GOOD thing. The unimaginative noodling that passes for contemporary design is just an impractical waste of metal that has useless interior room coupled with poor outward visibility in service of trying to ape some Japanese toy spaceship of the 90's.

  • Buying energy low and selling high to make money is essentially free money while your car is not in use. FREE MONEY. And you just called this function a gimmick? Are you on crack? I guess you don’t claim to be anything more than a mere car reviewer so I won’t hold it against you.
